Clayton County Police were on the lookout for the gunman who shot a Jonesboro man outside The Spot nightclub and sports bar early Friday morning, apparently over a spilled beer.
Timothy Jackson, 32, of Jonesboro was listed in fair condition Friday afternoon at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, after police say he was shot several times in the parking lot of the club, located at 8514 Ga. Highway 85, Jonesboro.
Police do not know the identity of the shooter, who fled the scene driving south on Ga. 85 in a white vehicle, Clayton County Police spokesman Officer Kevin Hughes said. Police do not know the make and model of the vehicle.
Jackson told police the altercation began as a verbal dispute after he accidentally spilled beer on the unidentified man. The altercation turned physical once the pair was asked to leave the bar. Jackson told police he did not know the man, Hughes said.
Authorities were also still searching for a man suspected in a December shooting at The Spot.
Police say 31-old-year Derrick Ashley Blake shot and killed Marion Turner, 26, of College Park on Dec. 23 at the nightclub.
Authorities say Blake was seen arguing with Turner at the club that night. Blake allegedly went to his vehicle, retrieved a 9 mm handgun, re-entered the bar, and shot Turner twice in the back, killing him.
Police said in January Blake was believed to be in the Savannah-Chatham County area.
Attempts to contact the nightclub by phone Friday were unsuccessful.
Anyone with information in either case was asked to call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477.
