lbond@news-daily.com A 1-year-old boy died Monday afternoon after being struck by a car in a church parking lot, Clayton County Police said. The incident occurred at the House of Prayer for All Nations World Wide Ministries, located at 737 Veterans Parkway, Jonesboro, between 2 and 3 p.m., Clayton County Police spokesman Officer Kevin Hughes said. "Apparently a relative of the child was going to the bank, or something. She was backing out of a parking space, felt a bump and got out to see what she had hit," Hughes said. "She saw it was the child, picked him up, and ran inside to have someone call 911." Hughes did not have information on how the woman was related to the child. "They drove the child to Southern Regional [Medical Center] and the child was pronounced dead there," Hughes said. He did not have information on why the child, and his relative, were at the church but said, "the child was supposed to be inside of the building," when the incident occurred. No charges were expected to be filed against the driver, said Hughes. "It's just an unfortunate incident, that's a bad accident," he said.More like this story
