Local churches schedule Easter services

Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church, located at 2165 Ga. Highway 138 in Riverdale, will host its Good Friday Service of Tenebrae tonight at 7:30 p.m. The service will recall the crucifixion of Christ. For more information, call (770) 997-7117.

Greater Works Baptist Church will observe Good Friday by presenting the Seven Last Words that Jesus spoke from the cross. The service will begin tonight at 7 p.m. The public is welcome. Light refreshments will be served. The church is located at 3296 Walt Stephens Road in Jonesboro.

Family Life Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1115 Morrow Road in Morrow, will preach the Seven Last Words on Good Friday at 7 p.m. The church will host its Easter Service on Sunday, April 12, starting at 11 a.m. Visitors will be able to wear jeans, T-shirts, and warm-up suits. The schedule for Easter weekend services for First Baptist Church of Riverdale, located at 6805 Church St., are as follows: April 10 (Good Friday) - "Seven Last Words of Christ" worship service at 7 p.m., sponsored by the Association of Christian Ministers of Clayton County, and hosted by New Macedonia Baptist Church; April 11 - Easter egg hunt on the church grounds at 1 p.m., Easter egg hunt at Chateau Forest Apartments in Riverdale at 3 p.m.; April 12 (Easter Sunday) - Sunday School for everyone at 9:45 a.m., Easter Sunday worship celebration at 11 a.m. For more information, call (770) 997-6161.

St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, located at 1221 Morrow Road in Morrow, is offering Holy Week services until April 12. Community Bible Church, located at 2001 Jodeco Road in Stockbridge, will offer Good Friday services led by Rabbi Robert Solomon in the auditorium tonight at 7 p.m. On Saturday, April 11, the church will host an "Eggstravaganza" Easter egg hunt with 40,000 eggs, followed by the arrival of the Easter Bunny via helicopter. Greater Works Baptist Church will host a Family Fun Day Easter Celebration on Saturday, from 11 a.m., to 2 p.m. The special guest will be "Lil' Jimmy," who will share his positive message through the art of rap, hip-hop and spoken word with the help of his grandfather, "The Ole Man," and his DJ, "DJ Pozitivity." The Community Impact Center, located at 2450 Mt. Zion Parkway, Suite 400, will host its annual Community Outreach Day Saturday from 9 a.m., to 2 p.m. The event will provide free HIV testing, diabetes testing, nutrition counseling and mental health assessments. There will be a blood drive, free food and clothing for those in need, as well as barbers and beauticians on site to style hair. Volunteers, non-perishable food, and lightly-used clothing are needed. The elders and congregation of Noah's Ark Holiness Church (formerly on Noah's Ark Road in Jonesboro), has invited the public to its Easter services, a gospel singing, and the dedication of the new church building at 1404 Barnesville Road in Griffin. Easter services times are Sunday, at 11 a.m., and 6 p.m. The gospel singing will take place on Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m., and during intermission. The new church building dedication will take place during the Sunday-morning service on April 19, at 11 a.m. Dinner will be served. April 14

On April 14, from 11:45 a.m., to 1 p.m., the Clayton County Marriage and Family Initiative will host its quarterly general meeting. April 18

Higher Living Community Impact Center, located at 2450 Mt. Zion Parkway, Suite 400, will host its next Get Checking Class on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m. The church encourages anyone over the age of 18 without a checking account to attend. For more information, call (678) 422-4787.

Clayton County MEGA Service Day will take place April 18 from 8 a.m., to 12 p.m. Volunteers will help remove trash, debris, and litter from public rights of way, complete small beautification projects for the elderly, assist at a nursing home or a local shelter, and help with minor park improvements, such as playground upgrades. The sign-in will take place at Riverdale First Baptist Church, located at 6805 Church Street in Riverdale. From there, individuals will go to their selected work sites. Volunteers are recommended to wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves. Water, juice and lunch will be provided for volunteers. Seth Oliver Ministries will host a special "Friday Night Live" Revival Celebration on April 24 at 7 p.m., at Oak Park Church, located at 2613 Ga. Highway 138 in Stockbridge. There will be a live band and praise team. All ages are invited to attend.

April 25

The Methodist Women of Anvil Black United Methodist Church, located at 3895 Anvil Block Road in Ellenwood, will host an Arts and Crafts Fair April 25 from 8 a.m., to 4 p.m. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 10 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m., to 2 p.m. Home-baked foods may be purchased. Jodeco Road United Methodist Church, located at 1500 Jodeco Road in Stockbridge, hosts Family Movie Nights on the last Friday of each month.
