Higher Living to host Get Checking Class

Saturday

Higher Living Community Impact Center, located at 2450 Mt. Zion Parkway, Suite 400, will host its next Get Checking Class Saturday from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m. The center encourages anyone over the age of 18 without a checking account to attend. For more information, call (678) 422-4787.

Clayton County Mega Service Day will take place Saturday from 8 a.m., to 12 p.m. Volunteers will help remove trash, debris, and litter from public rights of way, complete small beautification projects for the elderly, assist at a nursing home or a local shelter, and help with minor park improvements, such as playground upgrades. The sign-in will take place at Riverdale First Baptist Church, located at 6805 Church Street in Riverdale. From there, individuals will go to their selected work sites. Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and bring work gloves. Water, juice and lunch will be provided for volunteers. Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2112 Rex Road in Morrow, will host a grand opening for its recently-built Family Life Center Sunday at 10:45 a.m. The Family Life Center will serve the community with various programs and services. "Walk for Life," a benefit for the Jonesboro Pregnancy Care Center, will take place in Jonesboro on April 25, starting at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro ROC (Recreation Outreach Center). Registration will take place at the ROC at 8:30 a.m., and the walk will start at 9 a.m. The Pregnancy Care Center offers women faith-based alternatives to crisis pregnancies. The annual Clayton County Community Prayer Breakfast, hosted by the Clayton County Ministers' Conference, will take place on May 7, in observance of the National Day of Prayer. The program will start at 6:30 a.m., at the National Archives Southeast Region, located at 5780 Jonesboro Road in Morrow. The guest speaker for this year's event will be the Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. Music will be provided by local gospel recording artist "LIZ" Yancey and the gospel group, "ZAMAR."
