Pre-kindergartners from across Clayton County, and their families, will have an opportunity to get active during a fitness event hosted this week by Clayton County Public Schools and the Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department.
The school system and the recreation department will celebrate the Week of the Young Child with a "Pre-K Family Fitness Fair" Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Jim Huie Recreation and Aquatic Center, 7905 Tara Boulevard, in Jonesboro. The goal of the event is to "increase family health and well-being, while reducing childhood obesity," according to a statement from the school system. Agencies from throughout the community which focus on health and safety, and officials from the school system's nutrition and nursing departments, will have displays set up to provide information and will perform health screenings for attendees. There will also be a fitness walk from 6 to 6:30 p.m. For more information on the fitness fair, call (678) 817-3103. - Curt YeomansMore like this story
