Clayton County's public school system is in the process of registering children for next year's kindergarten classes.
Parents and guardians of rising kindergartners will be able to register children for school Saturday during early registration at two Clayton County elementary schools.
Registration will be from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., at Tara Elementary School, at 937 Mt. Zion Road, Morrow, and at Brown Elementary School, which is located at 9771 Poston Road, Jonesboro.
Early registration is open to all rising kindergartners, regardless of what school they will attend in the fall.
Children must be 5 years old, or older, by Sept. 1, to be eligible for kindergarten during the 2009-10 school year.
To register a child, parents or guardians must provide the youth's birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records and a recent ear, eye and dental screening form.
Parents or guardians also must provide two forms of proof of residency, such as a signed lease, mortgage book, or a utility bill.
Regular, daily kindergarten registration will begin on May 4 at 33 elementary schools, and two primary schools. Daily registration will last until May 22.
Only Kemp Elementary School and Mt. Zion Elementary School will not register children for kindergarten, as those schools only serve the third- through fifth-grades.
A Kindergarten Kick-Off Family Night will take place on May 14, at 6 p.m., at all of the schools which have kindergarten classes. For more information about kindergarten registration, call (770) 473-2703.
