Suspect spends the night in CVS store

Clayton County Police have released surveillance images of a man they say hid out in a CVS Pharmacy store overnight Tuesday, then pistol whipped a female manager when she arrived the next morning at the Jonesboro business.

The incident happened at the CVS store located at 581 Flint River Road. Police say that around 9:50 p.m., Tuesday, an unidentified man entered the store and apparently hid in a storage closet.

On Wednesday around 6:40 a.m., the suspect came out of the storage closet and attacked the manager, hitting her about the head and face with a pistol, according to Lt. Rebecca Brown, Clayton County Police spokesperson.

"He was not able to obtain any cash, because she closed the safe door when he jumped onto her head from the ceiling," Brown said in a statement.

Brown said the safe could not be re-opened, because it is time-locked. She said the suspect did get away with a carton of cigarettes.

The manager was treated for her injuries, according to Brown.

Detectives believe the suspect lives in the area, because he apparently arrived at the store on foot, and fled the scene on foot.

Police have released surveillance photos of the man entering another store in the area with a female companion about two hours before he showed up at the CVS.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a medium-heavy build.

He was wearing large, frame, gold, possibly prescription glasses.
