Guitars will be tuned and sound will be checked, before tonight's kickoff of the annual "Music in the Park" concert series in Stockbridge.

From April through October, the city offers the free concerts from 7 to 10 p.m., on the fourth Saturday of each month, in Memorial Park.

Tonight's event will feature the Naked Hearts Band, a five-piece variety band.

The May 23 performance will feature music by The Regulars, a pop-variety band with a blues feel.

Music on June 27 will be provided by Tammy Allen.

Allen, according to concert organizers, performed at the Atlanta Jazz Festival in 2006 and 2007, and for the Smooth Jazz 107.5 WJZZ concert series at Villa Christina in Dunwoody.

The Music in the Park series features a variety of musical styles, concert organizers said, including jazz, pop, oldies, rock, blues, and country.

Concert attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and blanket.

Food concessions benefiting local charities will be available, and the playground and basketball courts will be open.

City ordinances prohibit animals in the park area.

The annual concert series is always popular, said Stockbridge City Councilwoman Kathryn Gilbert.

"They are really well-received," said Gilbert. "It's always good to have people in a relaxed, lovely atmosphere enjoying themselves."

The city is working with Peachtree Music Professional, Inc., in McDonough to coordinate this year's concert series.

Gilbert said that once word gets out about the musical performances, attendance is usually strong.

Depending on the group playing, she continued, music lovers have been known to travel to the concerts from as far away as Peachtree City, and DeKalb and Rockdale counties. "There are people coming in from all over," Gilbert said.

"As a resident of the city, I appreciate the efforts of the city in cooperation with Peachtree Music to bring a free, family-friendly entertainment opportunity to the area," she said.

Memorial Park is located at 106 Jennings Way, Stockbridge. For more information, or directions to the park, call (770) 389-7900.
