Hollie Leoney Yarde
Hollie Leoney Yarde departed this life on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009. Hollie was a member of the Southern Regional Ladies Auxiliary, where in addition to her service to the patients of Southern Regional, she was secretary and treasurer to the auxiliary members. Her volunteerism, and strong sense of service to the community, extended to the local election board, where she and her husband, Leslie, served as local polling station volunteers, assisting Clayton County voters during numerous state, local and federal elections.
Married for 57 years, Hollie and her husband, Leslie, migrated from their native Guyana, South America, settled in Brooklyn, N.Y., and later retired to Jonesboro in 1993. She is survived by her four children, Winston, William, Hermina and Heather; her siblings, Nathaniel Griffith, Winslow Griffith and Joyce Ferdinand; her six grandchildren, William, Nicole, Chisa, Jason, Clifford and Bryant; her daughters-in-law, Janet and Angela; her son-in law, Serdar Irmak; as well as several cousins, friends and associates.
Hollie's life will be celebrated at Horis A. Ward-Tara Chapel on Tuesday, Aug. 4 with a viewing from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a celebration-of-life service. We thank God for the precious gift he shared with us! Horis A. Ward Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
