Peggy Ann Byers

McCollum-McCartney

Peggy peacefully left this earth to join her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009 after a brief battle with brain and lung cancer. She was born in Hickory, N.C., to the late Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Byers. In her earlier years, she worked as a dental assistant, then worked for and retired from the F.D.I.C., in Atlanta. Peggy spent her time between North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. In her remaining days, she moved from Greenwood, S.C., to Fort Lawn, S.C., into the Helms-Gordon Residential Care Home to be closer to the love of her life, her son, Michael Wesley McCollum, and his wife, Tifanie, of Waxhaw, N.C. She also leaves behind a brother, J.C. Byers and wife Wilma, of Laurens, S.C.; a sister, Olivia "Dib" Burns and husband Robert, of Greenwood, S.C., and a host of extended family and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the "Angels" of Helms-Gordon Residential Care Home for the incredible support, comfort and loving care they provided, always going above and beyond the call of duty. Your dedication did not go unnoticed. You are a blessing. We love you and you are never to be forgotten.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jonesboro. The Rev. David Douglas will officiate.

In honor of Peggy's life, the family asks that you become a "donor of life" to support lifesaving transplants to others. For those that wish to offer a memorial contribution, please do so to Ascension Hospice, 105 Stone Village Drive, Fort Mill, S.C., 29708.
