Roy Barnes, the former governor of Georgia and a 2010 Democratic gubernatorial candidate, will speak this Monday in Morrow before the Clayton County Democratic Party.
Barnes will speak during the party's general monthly meeting, which will start at 7 p.m., at the Morrow Municipal Complex, located at 1500 Morrow Road. Born in Mableton, Ga., Barnes was elected to serve as governor in 1998. In 2002, he was defeated by current governor, Sonny Purdue, who will soon complete his second and final, four-year term. During his one term as governor, Barnes, an attorney by profession, was successful in removing the prominence of the Confederate battle emblem from the Georgia state flag. After leaving office, he devoted six months to the Atlanta Legal Aid Society before returning to the private practice of law and establishing The Barnes Law Group.
