The Peach Belt Conference released its 2009 preseason All-Conference team for men's soccer on Friday, and Clayton State's Kyle Timm and Leighton Fredericks were each selected to the squad. The team was voted on by the Peach Belt Conference men's soccer coaches.
Both Timm and Fredericks were All-Peach Belt Conference selections last season, and will be key returning players from a Clayton State team that finished 9-5-4 and 3-0-3 in the PBC last season.
Timm, a senior midfielder from Johannesburg, South Africa, will be the Lakers' captain for the upcoming season and will direct what should be a dangerous Clayton State offensive attack. A former NJCAA All-American at Tyler Junior College, Timm started every game last season, scoring a goal with four assists for six points.
Fredericks, a sophomore forward from Durban, South Africa, is coming off a banner first season in a Laker uniform in which he became the second straight Clayton State player to earn Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year honors. He led the Peach Belt in goals scored with 13 and third in the conference in points scored with 27.
Clayton State opens the 2009 season on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Nova Southeastern.
