It's barely a week into the high school basketball season, and already there are some big rivalry games on the slate for tonight in both boys and girls action.
Among the games set for today in the Southern Crescent are Region 4-AAAA games between Mt. Zion at Stockbridge. A Region 4-AAAA game with Dutchtown at Ola, and non-region game with Douglass at North Clayton, and a Region 4-AAAAA tilt with Chapel Hill at Mundy's Mill and a Region 7-A crossover game with St. Francis at Eagle's Landing Christian.
Girls games: Dutchtown (3-0) kept its record perfect Tuesday with a 79-51 victory against Jonesboro.
All the Lady Bulldog victories have come against teams from the Southern Crescent. In addition to its win against the Lady Cardinals, Dutchtown as also beaten Luella (67-49) and Henry County (79-51). Ola (0-3) seeks its first victory off the season.
Mt. Zion (2-3) takes its act on the road to Stockbridge (1-0) for a Region 4-AAAA game.
The Lady Bulldogs victories have come against Lagston Hughes and Ola.
The Lady Tigers knocked off Woodland 28-27 in their last victory.'
The North Clayton girls play host to Douglass tonight in a non-region game.
Mundy's Mill (4-1) plays its second straight Region 4-AAAAA contest and has won three out of its last four games.
The Lady Tigers opened league play with a 68-48 victory thee last time they took the floor. Chapel Hill (1-1) rolled past Creekside 80-33 in its last game.
Eagle's Landing Christian (1-0) opened the season Tuesday night with an 81-59 victory against St. Francis (0-4).
The Lady Chargers play host to Union Grove on Saturday afternoon.
Boys games: The Stockbridge Tigers (2-1) have won two in a row after falling to Luella in the season opener.
The Tigers face a Mt. Zion (3-1) team which won three straight before falling to Ola (55-51).
Ola (2-0) comes into tonight's game on a roll after putting together two close victories.
The Mustangs knocked off McIntosh (76-72) and Mt. Zion (55-51) to open the season. Dutchtown (1-2) knocked off Henry County for its first win.
North Clayton (2-0) defeated Lovejoy and Alcovy to begin the season with an undefeated record.
Tonight's the season opener for Douglass.
Mundy's Mill (1-3) lost its first three games of the season, but got back on track Tuesday night with a 69-66 against Pebblebrook. Tonight they take on Chapel Hill (0-2).
Eagle's Landing Christian (1-0) built a double-digit lead at the end of the first half in Tuesday's season opener, and defeated Fellowship Christian 81-59. St. Francis comes in with a 0-4 mark.
