Zeelita Smith of Lovejoy was the only Southern Crescent swimmer to place first in an event at the Comin' to Town Invitational last weekend at the Steve Lundquist Natatorium. Smith won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.13 seconds at the invitational, which was jointly hosted by all nine Clayton County teams.
This was the first major invitational for the county this season with over 650 swimmers participating in the daylong meet. In the 100 freestyle, Smith was fifth with a time of 59.95 seconds.
Overall, Lovejoy placed 11th among the 28 teams as the top area team finisher. The Wildcats were ninth in the girls division while Eagle's Landing was the top boys team at 10th in that division.
Jonesboro won girls had a time of 2:00.78 to place ninth in the 200 freestyle with the foursome of juniors Stormy Reneke and Bryana Pettus and sophomore Brittany Waller and freshman Tiffany Scott.
On the boys' side, Alexander Smith had a time of one minute, 4.74 seconds to place seventh in the 100 butterfly. Justin Green of Lovejoy had a time of 1:114.31 to place eighth in the 100 breaststroke.
Eagle's Landing Christian placed sixth in the 200 free relay. The foursome of junior Matthew Calhoun, freshman Chris Da-Silva and seniors Greg Taylor and Chris Mench had a time of 1:44.87. Finishing seventh in the 400 relay was North Clayton's foursome of senior Justin Atkins, junior Jimmie Reynolds and freshmen Brandon Stewart and Wesley Wallace. They had a time of 3:46.26 to finish in the top 10.
