From Staff Reports
Playing close, tense basketball games had become a pattern of Stockbridge's boys basketball team as of late. That continued Tuesday night.
But the No. 8 Tigers found a way to escape with a 53-46 victory at Alcovy to stay atop the Region 4-AAAA standings.
Regis Wilbourn had a team-high 16 points for Stockbridge (5-1, 3-0). Dante Campbell had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Tigers star guard Chris Davis finished with seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Drew 49, Morrow 46
The Titans made another strong statement in its inaugural season by going into Morrow's gym and getting a tough non-region win.
Jarnor Jones had 15 points for Drew (6-2), Ray Ebola and Cory Graves each had nine and Eloka Olisa grabbed 13 rebounds.
The win was the fourth straight for the Titans and a sign that the program is moving in the right direction.
"I still think we can do a whole lot better," Drew coach Jarrod Davis said. "We need to get better on our free throws. But we played defense very well. They have great athletes at Morrow, and I think tonight showed the program's going in the right direction."
Spalding 59, Woodland 57
The Wolfpack had a shot to break a 57-57 tie and snatch a victory.
But when the shot missed, Woodland (3-3, 2-2 in Region 4-AAA) was called for a foul on the rebound and Spalding made both free throws to get the win.
Eagle's Landing 59, Maynard Jackson 47
The Golden Eagles continued its strong start to the season with a Region 4-AAA victory at home.
Javon Wells led Eagle's Landing (3-1, 3-1) with 18 points. Warren Staples added 15 and Desmond Ringers had 13.
