Man faces attempted-robbery charge

Clayton County sheriff's deputies arrested a Riverdale man Monday evening, after allegedly finding him loitering near a gas station with a pistol and a ski mask.

Clayton County Sheriff's Sgt. Sonja Sanchez said deputies arrested Carl Spralling, 30, on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, criminal attempt armed robbery, loitering and obstruction of an officer. She said two separate Riverdale addresses were listed for Spralling in authorities' records.

Sanchez said a member of the sheriff's office's tactical operations division was at the Shell gas station at 8075 Ga. Highway 85 in Riverdale around 7:30 p.m., Monday, and saw Spralling near the rear of the business. When the deputy approached Spralling, Sanchez said a physical altercation ensued and Spralling was Tased.

She said the deputy noticed Spralling had a revolver in his waistband.

Spralling was able to get away, briefly, Sanchez said, and was seen attempting to discard the gun and a ski mask before being apprehended.

Sanchez said Tuesday that Spralling was being held in the Clayton County Jail.
