One man was shot and several others pepper-sprayed Wednesday morning during the robbery at a pawn shop outside Riverdale.
Clayton County Police were looking for at least two people - a male and a female - witnesses say entered the Pawn Mart, located at 7471 Ga. Highway 85, around 9:25 a.m.
According to a police report, a black male with short hair entered the Pawn Mart and began shooting while a female accomplice pepper-sprayed others in the store. One witness, who was working in the back of the store, told police the robbers took her purse, keys, cell phone and other possessions.
In the melee, a man was shot once in the wrist and once in the back. The police report identified the man as Javon Russell, but did not specify his age, hometown, or occupation.
The report said Russell was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Riverdale Police Chief Samuel F. Patterson, whose officers were first on the scene, identified the shooting victim as the store's manager.
"One of our investigators was on the scene waiting for Clayton County [Police] to take over," Patterson said. "He told me that the person shot was the manager, an African-American male. He was alert when emergency workers arrived."
Patterson said according to his investigator, two black males and two black females fled the scene in a black Kia Spectra with a paper tag. One of the male suspects was described as wearing a gray, hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
Clayton County Police Officer Tim Owens said no arrests had been made in the case by Wednesday afternoon.
