Lakers sweep singles, doubles, beat Georgia Southwestern

The Clayton State Laker women's tennis team opened the 2009 season on a winning note, blanking visiting Georgia Southwestern 9-0 on Sunday at new-look Laker Courts.

The highlight of the match was at No. 1 doubles, where Clayton State's Katie White and Viktoriya Semyrodenko had all they could handle from the Lady Hurricanes' Leady Cuellar and Lauren Grogran. White and Semyrodenko, ranked second in the nation in Division II in doubles, fell behind early 3-0, but rallied from there to prevail 8-5.

The Lakers swept the other two doubles matches as well as all six matches in singles play. Freshmen Marie-Laure Cercellenti and Evelin Csizi were both victorious in singles and doubles in their collegiate debuts.

Clayton State travels to neighboring NCAA Division III power Emory on Thursday at 4 p.m.
