A man attempting to cross Tara Boulevard was hit by a car Monday afternoon. While the extent of his injuries was not known at press time, they are not life threatening, according to the Clayton County Police Department.

Lt. Rebecca Brown, a police spokesperson, said that at approximately 2:15 p.m., a black male, approximately 52 years old, attempted to cross the busy road near the Hooters Restaurant at 6785 Tara Blvd., in Jonesboro. She said the man, whom police did not identify, was hit by a vehicle turning onto the highway.

"They do know the driver was looking left and turning right," said Brown. "It was not a hit-and-run. He did loop around and do a U-turn when he realized somebody had been hit."

Brown said the victim was transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated for non-critical injuries. She said communication between police and the victim was difficult, as his native language is French.

"They couldn't understand the victim, because he was speaking French," said Brown. "They don't know if he is from Haiti, Cameroon, or somewhere else."
