We have heard a lot lately about the government stimulus plans to jump-start our economy.
Most of our elected officials have strong opinions as to what will bring our economy back to health and what will not work. At least, they are thinking about how to fix our fiscal problems.
However, their thinking is flawed, for they all seem to think our problems can be fixed by spending great amounts of money, when we should, first, be sure our hearts and minds are in the proper relationship with our great God and His teachings.
Only then will we be guided by His wisdom to correct our problems.
I'm afraid our leaders are guilty of trying to lead our country in their own wisdom alone, and have been influenced by their own and others' desires to gain wealth through faulty programs and poor planning.
The people also have been fooled by the ability to get something for nothing, when they knew they could not afford it and could not pay the high price required.
What we (our country) need is to turn our thinking back to God, the Creator of all and His desire to turn hearts to Him. We have a spiritual stimulus plan provided by our Holy God to change lives forever.
The Holy Bible provides His growth model, but it has been forgotten and neglected by our people and our leaders. God uses His Word as a seed to grow us and teach us how to live and deal with others.
We desperately need to renew our efforts to sow the Word. First Peter 1:23 says, "For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God."
The Word, His Bible, is what God uses (along with the Holy Spirit) to stimulate hearts to turn toward Him. It is God's stimulus plan, His great plan of salvation through His son, Jesus Christ. Unlike the economic stimulus plans, God's plan is guaranteed to stimulate hearts!
Notice what Peter said: "You have been born again." He means Christians have the responsibility to sow these "seeds" to tell others about Jesus Christ and how to be saved-changed from sinful lives, to lives guided and stimulated by the Word of God.
The meaning of the "Parable of the Sower," which Jesus gave us in Luke 8:11, is: The seed is the Word of God. Christians need to become sowers of the Word. "So is my Word that goes out from my mouth, it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."( Isaiah 55:11).
The time is right. Hearts are ready. People are searching.
We have the only answer: "Being poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything" (2nd Corinthians 6:10). Together, we can turn hurting and lost people back to God, one seed at a time.
