Embarrassed by our leadership
To the editor:
First, let me say that I love my country. I spent 22 years of my life in defense of my country as an enlisted man in the United States Army Air Corps, and later, in the U.S. Air Force.
I am now 79 years old, and have been voting for quite a long time. So long that I can't remember when I first voted.
Having said all of that, I have to say that as of November 2008, the whole world is laughing and looking at us as though we are a bunch of fools!
Looking at the events that have taken place over these past few months, and now the fiasco taking place in Washington with Roland Burris, the governor of Illinois, and others, one has to wonder just where did these so-called leaders of our states and nation come from?
In all my years as a voter, I have never, ever seen such a disgraceful display of "politics."
There has been cheating, lying, double-dealing and just plain criminal behavior, all across the political spectrum, not to mention the financial market place.
I believe that our Founding Fathers are turning over in their respective graves at this point, and wondering where this crop of crooks came from.
Did they ever dream that this country would be mocked because of the ungodly behavior of it's elected officials? Integrity, ethics and principles are out the window.
To say that I am more than a little embarrassed is an understatement.
I am ashamed of the behavior of the politicians in this country. Surely we can do better. We must demand that they do better.
God help us if they don't.
