vbaldowski@henryherald.com Those who appreciate good food can get their taste buds ready for the "Savor The Taste" cook-off. The event, scheduled for Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m., at Mundy's Mill High school, 9652 Fayetteville Road, Jonesboro, will raise money for the Psi Alpha Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in Henry and Clayton counties. This will be the sorority's first such cook-off. "We're calling it our inaugural event," said Shannon Daniels, the chapter's president. "We're hoping for several hundred people from the community to come out and support us." Cook-off categories will include meats, side dishes and desserts. The food will be prepared by 21 men from Henry and Clayton counties, said Daniels. "They are going to be showcasing their own cooking creations," she said. Money raised from the event will go toward supporting various sorority programs, including scholarships for students, a mentoring program for girls in seventh- through 12th-grades, and organizing an annual community health fair and school supply drive. Laura Scott-Gist, a committee member for the "Savor The Taste" event, is anticipating one entrant's macaroni and cheese. "It's good comfort food for me," she said. Another entry will be vegetarian chili, prepared by her husband, James Gist. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-10. - On the net: Psi Alpha Omega: www.psialphaomega.orgMore like this story
