Laura Jean Webb Smith

Laura Jean Webb Smith, 68, of Anderson, S.C., formerly of Ty Ty and later of Clayton County, died Monday, June 29, 2009 at Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson, S.C.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, July 3 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The Rev. Billy D. Hanna of Albany will officiate, with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 3 from 2 p.m., until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Ms. Smith was born on Dec. 30, 1940 in Omega and was the daughter of John Clark Webb, Jr., and Thelma Hayes Webb, formerly of Jonesboro, both deceased. She was a retired secretary for the public safety director in Clayton County and was of the Baptist faith. She graduated from Tifton High School in 1958. She was a very loving, caring, giving and compassionate mother and friend, who enjoyed staying in touch with long-time friends and family. She will be greatly missed by all.

Ms. Smith is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Melanie Smith Foster and her husband, Scott, of Anderson, S.C.; Melanie's father, Donald Harmon Smith of Daphne, Ala.; one sister, Carolyn Webb Griner of Leesburg; and one grandson, Bradley Scott Foster of Anderson, S.C.

Alva Orton Inman

Mrs. Alva Orton Inman, age 69, of Morrow passed away June 29, 2009. Mrs. Inman was born in Lufkin, Texas. She was employed by the state of Georgia as a clerk with the House of Representative. Ms. Inman was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter and sister who loved her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling. She was a member of the Clayton County Pilot Club and she was a member of Isle of Hope Baptist Church in Savannah. She cooked for the Morrow First United Methodist Church. Her father, George Paul Orton, preceded her in death.

Survivors are her children, Becki Goodwin (Holkie) of Canton, Robert Inman, Jr., of Covington, Michael Inman (Cassie) of McDonough; mother, Dot Orton of Savannah; grandchildren, Matthew Goodwin (Jennifer), Marci Goodwin, Jake Inman, Madison Inman and Savannah Inman; brother, Ray Orton (Frances) of Atlanta; sister, Bettie Anne Blitch (David) of Savannah; and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 3 at 10 a.m., in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Judy officiating. Interment will be Monday, July 6 at 1 p.m., at Hillcrest Abbey Cemetery in Savannah.
