Jonesboro police are investigating a shooting and attempted carjacking that took place in broad daylight, at a busy intersection in downtown Jonesboro Friday.

Jonesboro Police Det. Donnie Raiford said that around 3:15 p.m., three Black males, in a small, red, 4-door car, attempted to rob another vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and Mill Street, directly behind the Road to Tara Museum.

Raiford said one of the suspects shot the victim, a male, who was transported to a local hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim was driving a white, late-model Toyota Highlander SUV with a Henry county tag.

A witness who was driving on Mill Street when the incident happened, who did not want to be identified, said, "Two Black males jumped out and tried to take the car. I didn't see the shooting, but I heard it," she said. "I'm just freaked out about it."

Police said did not have further information about possible suspects, but said the incident is believed to be a random act.

Anyone with information in the case, is asked to contact Det. Donnie Raiford at (770) 478-7407.
