Clayton County grandparents are invited to enjoy a day of ice-cream, swimming, and games, along with arts-and-crafts activities, during a celebration of grandparents at the Jim Huie Recreation Center this Saturday.
The event will take place from 12 p.m., until 4 p.m., according to Mario Henson, aquatics coordinator, for the Steve Lundquist Aquatics Center, which is located at the Jim Huie Recreation Center, 9045 Tara Boulevard, in Jonesboro. "It's more like a grandparents social to give grandkids and grandparents a chance to spend time together," said Henson. "It's a great way for them to have fun, and it's also free," he said. Henson said about 30 grandparents participated in the event last year. "This Saturday, we're looking for more like 40-50 participants," said Henson. "We plan on doing this program once every three months." County residency is not required to attend the free event, according to Henson. "We just ask that you come and participate," he said.
