Christians must be strong and courageous - James C. Bell

The Holy Bible says in Joshua 1:9: "Be strong and courageous, do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Joshua was the new leader of the Israelites, having been selected by the Lord God to replace Moses as His messenger and servant. Deuteronomy 34:9 says: "Now Joshua, son of Nun, was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him ... So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses."

Can you imagine the pressure and stress that Joshua was experiencing when he replaced the great leader, Moses? True, he had been Moses' second-in-command for many years, but now, the Lord called on him and gave him the responsibility of leading the Israelites into the Promised Land.

God said, "I will give you every place where you set your foot." (Joshua 1:3a). "No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses so will I be with you." (Joshua 1:5).

Now Joshua was very strong. He had a great faith in the Lord. He depended on Him. He sought God's blessing and counsel in every thing he did, and the Lord gave him victory.

As Christians, we must claim the promises and power of this verse. We must accept the challenge of God's command to be strong and courageous. His command to every Christian is the great commission - "Go and make disciples of all Nations." (Matt. 28:19a).

I firmly believe this means that we must be witnesses for the Lord Jesus. When I tell other Christians this, many of them say, "I just can't do it. I can't talk to people about Jesus, for I really don't know what to say." Listen, my friend, if you have had a saving experience, if you recall how and when you were saved, this is your witness!

Just tell them what Jesus did for you. Share this experience with them and ask if they will accept Jesus as their Savior, assuring them He will do the same for them as He did for you.

I believe every Christian can learn to be an effective witness.

First, earnestly pray to God asking Him to help you become a witness for Jesus Christ. Continue to pray this prayer as you read and study the Bible. You will need help to learn how to study the Holy Bible. I suggest reading a good book -- "Living the Extraordinary Life," by Charles Stanley.

He is a great teacher. His book will help you understand great principles for living the Christian life, and the scriptures to support them. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill your life and lead you to someone who needs and wants to hear your experience with Christ.

Be sure to attend Church regularly and participate in a Bible-teaching Sunday school class. If you really want to have an exciting life, dare to ask the Lord Jesus to teach you to witness, to use you in bringing some lost soul to Him. This is just the beginning of feeling the joy of living for Christ. Be strong and courageous, step out of your security, dare to tell others what Jesus Christ has done for you.

I know from experience how much we need to pray for strength and courage when we determine to witness to others about what Jesus has done for us. I ask Him to give me courage and good recall of what I should say when sharing Christ with others. It's always a great experience!

I pray you will determine to witness for Jesus today.
