The U.S. Army recently announced Sgt. John Lee, the son-in-law of Morrow resident Veronica Moore, is returning to the U.S. after a deployment to the Iraqi theater of operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lee, an avionics system repair squad repair technician, has served in the military for eight years and is assigned to the 404th Aviation Support Battalion, part of the 4th Infantry's Combat Aviation Brigade, which is based out of Fort Hood, in Killeen, Texas.
The U.S. Army National Guard recently announced Pfc. Pierre D. Shannon, a 2007 graduate of Morrow High School, has graduated from a nine-week basic combat training course at Fort Sill, located in Lawton, Okla. During his training, Shannon studied armed and unarmed combat, field maneuvers and tactics, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, the military justice system, first aid, and map reading and land navigation. He is the son of Forest Park resident Leslie Kelly.
The U.S. Air Force recently announced Airman Clayton R. Valentine, a 2005 graduate of Morrow High School, has graduated from an eight-week basic military training course at Lackland Air Force Base, located in San Antonio, Texas. During his training, Valentine studied military discipline, Air Force core values, and basic warfare principles and skills. In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Valentine is the son of Monticello resident Dennis Valentine, and Morrow resident Glenna Valentine.
The Clayton County Public Library system offers many services to students, including tutoring programs for those who speak either English or Spanish, and online practice tests and electronic test preparation books for the SAT, GED, ASVAB, and TOEFFL exams.
