Expo will promote eco-friendly products

Area residents, including those from Henry and Clayton counties, will be able take their interest in "going green" to the next level during the upcoming Go Green Expo.

"We're producing the largest eco-friendly trade show in Georgia history," said Bradford Rand, chief executive officer of Go Green Expo and one of the event's organizers.

The Go Green Expo is being sponsored in part by WSB-TV, and will showcase the "latest and greatest in all things green," Rand said.

There will be more than 200 exhibits, he continued, including those on hybrid cars, eco-friendly home and building supplies, and booths offering organic foods.

The expo is scheduled for June 26-28 at the Cobb Galleria, Two Galleria Parkway, Atlanta.

Weekend activities at the expo, according to Rand, will include test drives of the latest fuel-efficient cars by Toyota, Honda and Smart Car, and acoustic musical performances on June 28.

The first day of the event will be strictly for businesses, he said, but the rest of the expo will be open to the public.

The hours are 10 a.m., to 5 p.m., June 26 and 28, and 10 a.m., to 6 p.m., on June 27. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, seniors and military families, and free for children ages 12 and under. Admission for business representatives attending the event is free, he said.

Rand, who said he has organized previous Go Green Expos in Los Angeles, New York City and Philadelphia, said he first became interested in organizing events promoting environmental awareness after watching former Vice President Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." The film, he said, inspired him to pay closer attention to the environment and how personal choices affect it.

"The reason we hold the expos is because you have a choice in the foods you eat, the car you drive, the way you build your home and how you get your energy," he said.
