The National Archives at Atlanta on Tuesday opened its "Documented Rights" exhibit, which chronicles the civil rights struggles of several minority groups.
The exhibit will remain on display at the archives facility, which is located at 5780 Jonesboro Road in Morrow, until Feb. 23, 2010. There is no cost for the public to view the exhibit. The archives facility is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 8:30 a.m., to 5 p.m. The display features documents from throughout the nation's history which chronicle civil rights issues facing women, African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and immigrants coming into the country through Ellis Island in New York, according to the exhibit's web site. There are more than 80 documents in the exhibit, including letters, photographs, cartoon booklets and court documents, said Mary Evelyn Tomlin, the public programs specialist for the National Archives at Atlanta. The documents were compiled from the holdings at the National Archives and Records Administration's 13 regional facilities across the country, Tomlin added.
