Christ is the Light of the World - James Bell

Last night, there was almost total darkness, not even the moon gave its light, only the artificial lights of man were present to light our way.

Today, the sky is blue and the brilliant sun is shining to give us both light and warmth. This is not uncommon, for we have known days and nights all our lives and assume it will always be the same.

The Holy Bible, God's Word and the absolute truth says, "The sun will no more light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the lord will be your everlasting light and your days of sorrow will end."( Isaiah 60:19-20.)

This prophecy, written around 740 BC, tells of the day of Christ's coming the second time, which of course is still in the future, so it told of events that would happen at least 2,744 years in the future!

In Revelation 21, the New Jerusalem or Heaven is described, and in verse 23, we read: "The City does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it for the Glory of God gives its light and the Lamb (Christ) is its lamp."

In John 8:12, Jesus says, "I am the light of the world; whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." This gospel links light with Christ, from whom all spiritual illumination comes. He is the Light of the World, who holds out wonderful hope for man.

The author of the gospel of John, the books of 1st and 2nd John and Revelation gives his testimony about Christ as he actually saw and heard Him speak. First John 1:5-7, says, "This is the message we have heard from Him (from Christ Himself!) and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we walk (live) in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His son, purifies us from all sin."

Please read all of the book of 1st John, for it gives the Christian great guidelines to live by. It also has good instructions for the unbeliever as well. For instance, look at verses 8-10. One of the most difficult things for the unbeliever is to recognize his sin.

I have talked with people who have said to me: "I am a good person, I am honest, I love others, I help the poor and I am a law-abiding citizen, so I feel I haven't done anything wrong to be forgiven of. Doesn't God realize this?"

Yes, He knows your heart and mind, and I am sure He loves you and wants to have a relationship with you, but we must come to God on His terms -- not ours. He lays them out clearly in John 3:16: "For God so loved the world (you and me, everyone) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever (you and me) believeth in Him should not perish but would have everlasting life."

Romans 3:23 tells us, "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Therefore, all of us must realize and admit we have sin in our lives. The Bible teaches that we cannot be good enough to go to Heaven, so no matter how good one may be, he or she must repent of his or her sin and turn to God by believing in Jesus Christ and having faith in Him, trusting Him to save us from Hell through His sacrificial death on the cross.

Please read Romans 10: 9 in your Bible and also Ephesians 2:8-9. These scriptures will confirm what you must do. Unbelief, and unconfessed sin will keep the sinner out of Heaven.

The most important opportunity any person ever has begins with his conviction of sin by the Holy Spirit. If you feel guilty of sin in your life, you may be sure He has pricked your conscious and wants you to have faith and belief in God.

I truly believe the very best decision one can make, and the most important one, is to accept Jesus Christ as his savior. Don't delay, accept Christ today!
