The Clayton County Board of Education will hold its June work session on Monday, June 29, at 6:30 p.m., at the Clayton County Public Schools Central Administration Complex, 1058 Fifth Ave., Jonesboro. This hearing will give residents an opportunity to address the school board on its proposed $574.7 million budget. Notes The U.S. Army National Guard recently announced Pvt. Corey Brewer, son of Morrow resident Donnice Williams, has graduated from a nine-week basic combat training course at Fort Jackson, which is located in Columbia, S.C. During his training, Brewer studied basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, rifle marksmanship, map reading, field tactics, the military justice system, and basic first aid. The U.S. Army recently announced Pvt. Aaron M. Williams, a 2004 graduate of Lovejoy High School, has graduated from a nine-week basic combat training course at Fort Sill, located in Lawton, Okla. During his training, Williams studied the military justice system, first aid, rifle marksmanship, map reading and land navigation, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics. He is the son of Jonesboro resident Tanya Williams. Macon State College recently announced Jonesboro resident Tonya Sheree Habersham made the school's President's List for the spring 2009 semester. Students must earn a 3.8 grade-point average while taking at least nine semester hours of courses to make the list. Ongoing The Clayton County Public Library system offers many services to students, including tutoring programs for those who speak either English or Spanish, and online practice tests and electronic test preparation books for the SAT, GED, ASVAB, and TOEFFL exams.
