A reported traffic stop has landed two Butts County men in jail in Henry County, on drug charges.
Terrance Leon Brown, 32, and Eric Cedon Grier, 50, both of Jackson, are charged with trafficking cocaine. Grier is also charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, and as an in-state fugitive.
Henry County Police reportedly encountered the suspects at approximately 3:15 p.m., Thursday, near the intersection of Ga. Highway 42 and Peeksville Road. According to Police Capt. Jason Bolton, Grier was driving a Dodge Charger, with Brown as his passenger, when the vehicle was pulled over for failure to maintain a lane.
"A consent search revealed 2.2 ounces of crack cocaine in the glove box," said Bolton. "Both occupants [of the car] were charged."
Bolton added that Grier, at the time of his arrest, had approximately a gram of suspected marijuana in his pocket. Grier also had an outstanding warrant in Butts County on a forgery charge, said the captain.
Both suspects were arrested and taken to the Henry County Jail. They appeared Friday in Magistrate Court.
Brown is being represented by the Public Defender's Office. The head of the department, Gary Bowman, was not available for comment Friday.
The charge against Grier was bound over to Superior Court.
A preliminary hearing in Grier's case was reset for July 30, to allow him time to hire an attorney. Bond for both Grier and Brown will be set at a later date, in Superior Court.
