Ted Johnson

Ted Johnson came into this world in December of 1990, and blessed everyone that came into contact with him. He graduated from Union Grove High School and was a college freshman at Clayton State University. Ted attended Higher Living Christian Church, where he was a member of the Youth Ministry, College Tour Team and Athletic Ministry. Ted's love of basketball spanned 15 years starting at the age of 3 when his father gave him his first basketball!

He departed this life on March 1, 2009. Ted is survived by his parents, Iris A. Smith and Ted V. Johnson, Sr., maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Smith, Sr., maternal uncle, Robert E. Smith, Jr., maternal aunt, Laverne Creek, paternal grandmother Linda Taylor, paternal grandfather Jessie James Johnson, paternal great-grandparents, Irene Taylor, Inez and Otto Johnson.

Kenneth Lee Rakestraw

Mr. Kenneth Lee Rakestraw, age 70, of Forest Park passed away March 2, 2009. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa R. and Don Allen of Sandersville, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy Lee and Michelle Rakestraw of Cochran; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole (Ryan) Wiggins and Lexi Allen.

Barbara Ann

Thompson Woodson

Mrs. Barbara Ann Thompson Woodson, age 62, of Jonesboro passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 at Sacred Journey Hospice. She was born on June 14, 1946 in Thomaston, Ga., to Warren Thompson and Irene Fordham. She was formerly employed with the Clayton County Board of Education where she worked for many years and was a member of New Covenant Church of God in McDonough. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Linda Bundy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Ga., 30253 or Davita Dialysis at 129 King St., Jonesboro, Ga., 30236.

Survivors include her husband, David Woodson of Jonesboro; daughter, Deborah Horton (Ron) of Billings, Mont.; sons, Steve Woodson (Cindie) of McDonough, Brian Woodson (Debbie) of McDonough; father, Warren Thompson of Phoenix City, Ala.; mother, Irene Fordham (Milwood) of Thomaston; brother, Johnnie Thompson (Midge) of Fayetteville; step-brother, Ricky Fordham (Charlene) of Thomaston; sister, Vickie Hayes (Anthony) of Thomaston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 6, with the Rev. Jeff Watkins officiating. Burial will be at Southview Cemetery, Thomaston. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 5, at Coggins Funeral Home. (706) 647-9681.

Milton Simon, Jr.

Milton Simon, Jr., passed away Feb. 28, 2009. He was a resident of Clayton County for 45 years, employed with the Jonesboro Post Office for 25 years and served with the U.S. Army for three years.

Services will be held in the chapel Thursday, March 5, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Don Rusk officiating. Interment to follow at McDonough City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Simon of Riverdale; son, Alan Simon of Locust Grove; daughters, Laurie Baker of Locust Grove, Kristy Alley of Locust Grove, Michelle Martin of Ocala, Fla.; sister, Olivia Simon of Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers, Mark Simon, Marty Simon, Mike Simon all of Corpus Christi, and five grandchildren.
