The Clayton County Board of Education's recently reformed policy committee will hold a called meeting today at 5:15 p.m., at the school system's central administration complex, 1058 Fifth Ave., Jonesboro. The school board's previous policy committee was disbanded in May 2007. After the policy committee meeting, the school board will hold another called meeting at 6 p.m., to vote on approval of the school system's report to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The State Bar of Georgia will hold the 2009 State Mock Trial Competition on Saturday and Sunday at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive, in Lawrenceville. The early rounds of the competition will be held Saturday from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m. The semifinals will begin Sunday, at 9:30 a.m., with the championship round beginning at 1:30 p.m. Jonesboro High School is one of 42 teams from across the state competing. The United States Army Reserve recently announced, Pvt. Jeremy J. Johnson, a 2008 graduate of Morrow High School, has graduated from a nine-week basic combat training course at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. During his training, Johnson studied military justice, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics. He is the son of Morrow resident Lureather Lewis.
The United States Air Force recently announced Airman Nicholas J. Mike, a 2008 graduate of Riverdale High School, has graduated from a six-week basic military training course at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. During his training, Mike studied the Air Force mission, organization, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and human relations. Airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Mike is the son of Riverdale resident Helenia Ford.
