LAWRENCEVILLE - Authorities believe a Jonesboro man gunned down a respected car salesman during an armed robbery in a Holiday Inn parking lot last summer.
Christopher Avery Brown faces murder charges in the Aug. 27 slaying of 50-year-old Robert Lovelace, an Atlanta man who friends called a top salesman at a Griffin car dealership.
A grand jury indicted Brown on counts of murder, felony murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault, according to a bill released Thursday.
Brown robbed the victim of cash before opening fire in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn Express in Stone Mountain, the indictment says.
A guest who had recently checked into the hotel heard the gunshot and found Lovelace bleeding on the ground outside. He later died at Gwinnett Medical Center.
An investigator learned of Brown's involvement through witness interviews, said Gwinnett Police Spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli.
U.S. Marshals arrested Brown, a New York native, in the Empire State in January.
It's unclear if Brown and the victim knew each other, or how they came to cross paths. A hotel manager said at the time Lovelace was not a registered guest at the hotel.
A 28-year-old Lawrenceville woman was arrested in connection with the killing in December. Police charged Charlotte Lynne McDaniel with lying to police, alleging that she provided her car to the shooter in order to traffic cocaine.
