We must be careful what we say - James C. Bell

I know we have all noticed how careless many are in what they say. We hear foul language being used on the radio and television, and in newspapers and magazines.

We hear too many adults using bad language and being offensive to those around them. In my opinion, nothing cheapens a person's character and influence more than cursing. Not only adults, but many young people and teens think it is "cool" to use bad language.

Profanity is bad enough, but they should realize that saying, "Oh my god, oh my god" over and over is an offense to Him as well. Parents need to teach their children from an early age to be respectful of God, and their peers, as well as adults, and not to use profanity.

The Holy Bible says in Exodus 20:verse 7, "You shall not misuse the Name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name."

Our use of profanity is so offensive to God that He made it the third of the Ten Commandments. Jesus said in Mathew 5:37, "We should not swear at all but let your 'yes be yes' and your 'no be no.'"

Please read all of the 5th chapter, known as the Beatitudes.

People today use the media to promote their agendas in subtle ways. I was looking at a very well-known "home" magazine the other day and noticed an article that showed a picture of a woman and her dog and several puppies. As I began to read the article, there were several curse words used and the mention of the woman's recent marriage to her partner, another woman.

I quickly put the magazine down. I like dogs and puppies, but not women or men in same-sex marriages. This is an illustration of sin and evil being sold to the public in a way that seems OK, since a leading publication carries the story.

Of course, we see this in all kinds of literature and movies and even on the daily news. Laws are being made to support or deny same-sex marriages in several states. America needs to return to the Lord!

Do you recall the children's song that says, "Be careful little tongue what you say, for the good Lord up above is looking down with love, so be careful little tongue what you say?"

It goes on to say, "Be careful little feet where you go." And another verse says, "Be careful little mind what you think."

There's a lot of truth in these verses and all of us need to follow the wisdom of this song. God knows our minds, our thoughts and every thing we do or say. We can't hide our sins from Him. If you have a problem controlling your tongue or your mind, there is a proven way to solve it, and live a better life.

We do have a loving God, who looks down on us from heaven and wants to forgive our sin and have a relationship with us. Some may think that a loving God could never forgive such a sinner as they are, but this is not true.

God will forgive our sins, if we ask Him sincerely and put our faith in Him and His Son, Jesus Christ. Think of three simple words that outline your actions -- things you must do to have the right relationship with God: Admit, Believe And Confess.

One must admit his or her sin, believe in God and confess those sins. We must ask God for forgiveness.

Please pray this simple prayer with me: "Lord, I know I am a sinner. I have been trusting in my own self, but now I put my trust in you. I believe in you and I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe He died on the cross to pay for my sin. Please forgive my sins in Jesus' name and give me your gift of eternal life. Amen.

He will do it!
