Dr. Lacy D. Powell

Dr. Lacy D. Powell, 87, of Fayetteville, formerly of Jonesboro, died March 27, 2009. He worked for the Clayton County Board of Education from the early 1950s until his retirement in 1987, first as an elementary school principal, then as Director of Research and Development.

Dr. Powell served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. After 36 missions over the European arena, his plane was shot down. He was captured by enemy forces and was a prisoner of war in Hungary.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Blackwood Powell; daughter, Cheryl Powell Allen and son, Greg Powell; their spouses, James Allen and Karen Powell, daughter of the heart Nelda Greene; grandchildren, James and Nikki Ruff, Tyler and Sean Powell; brother, James Paul Powell and loving family.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 31, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home. Military graveside services will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Carl J. Mowell & Son, Fayetteville - www.mowellfuneralhome.com.

Michael Railey

Michael Railey, age 44, of Hampton passed away on March 27, 2009.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Cinthia Waller of Lake City; mother, Mardeen Railey-Palmer of Hampton; brothers, Jimmy Railey of Stockbridge and David Railey of Hampton; grandmother, Lucille Duran of Hampton; two grandchildren, Anthony Walker, Jr., and Joshua Kurtis Waller.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 30, at 3:30 p.m., at the Fairview Memorial Gardens with Pastor Joe Hughes officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, 3 Corporate Square, Suite 120, Atlanta, Ga., 30329. Horis A. Rosa Lee Toney Elston

Rosa Lee Toney Elston, age 92, of Forest Park passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Henry Medical Center. Mrs. Elston was a true matriarch to her family and community. She was a long-time, faithful member of Tanners Baptist Church in Ellenwood. Although her life was filled with joy and happiness, it was not without heartache and deep loss, as Rosa was preceded in death by her first husband, Mr. J.P. Toney; her second husband, Mr. J.W. Elston; her daughter, Martha Thompson; three brothers and two sisters.

She has left behind to cherish her memory, three children, James Toney of Jonesboro, Wilma (Gerald) Couey of Milner, Wayne Toney of Jonesboro; sister, Jewell Hulsey of Senoia; son-in-law, Jimmy Thompson; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, March 31, at 3 p.m., at Ward's Parkway Chapel with the Rev. Charles Huggins officiating. Interment will follow at Tanner's Baptist Church Cemetery, 4482 Tanners Church Road, Ellenwood. Mrs. Elston was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Donna Ann Patti

Donna Ann Patti, age 69, of Hampton died Sunday, March 29, 2009. Mrs. Patti was a strong supporter of the Fayette County High School Band Boosters. She was preceded in death by her parents, James A. and Edith (Phillips) Pelley; brother, James Pelley.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Joseph A. Patti of Hampton; daughter, Jennifer P. (Robert) Hulak of Marietta; brother, William (Lucille) Pelley of Lauderdale on the Beach, Fla.; sister-in-law Jacqueline A. (Jerry) Dooley of Palm Harbor, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pelley was cremated and a memorial service will be held Thursday, April 2, at 7 p.m., in the Chapel of the Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville. The Rev. Karl Duggan will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m., until the time of service at the funeral home. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mrs. Patti's honor to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
