Gary Edwards

The Villages, Fla.

Gary L. Edwards, 59, formerly of McDonough passed away at his home on April 18, 2009. Gary was born on Nov. 27, 1949 in OpaLocka, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Edwards and Ivy K. Edwards.

He is survived by his son, E. Justin Edwards and wife, Stephanie; daughter, Kathleen Edwards; brother, John L. Edwards and wife, Renelle; sister, Delores Ann Smith and husband, Michael; granddaughters Allison and Kortney Edwards and nieces, Ashley Lutes, Emily Smith and Tracy Dunham and numerous friends.

Gary was a graduate of Henry County High School where he lettered in football. He had a career at Eastern Airlines in Atlanta and moved to Florida to care for his parents. Gary was a transplant recipient and very active in transplant fundraising and awareness. He was an active booster of the Transplant Olympics. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.

A Masonic memorial service will be held at his home in The Villages. This service, at Gary's request, will be followed by a traditional Irish wake. Gary would appreciate your support of organ and tissue donations and urges you to be a donor.

Mattielene Garner

Mattielene Garner, age 81, of Clayton County died April 30, 2009.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 2, in Horis A. Ward Tara Chapel at 3:30 p.m., with the Revs. Ray Garner, Roger Powell and E. L. Addis officiating. Interment will follow at Noah's Ark Baptist Church Cemetery.

A long-time resident of Clayton County, Mattielene Garner was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Wanda Williams (Troy) of Jonesboro; two brothers, Willie Harris and Billie Harris; two sons, Windell Garner (Kaye) of Jonesboro, Wayne Garner (Paula) of White Plains; six grandchildren, Serena Garner, Brian Garner, April Williams, Aimee Garner, David Garner, Emilie Garner; two great-grandchildren, Malena Clavijo and Cody Garner.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Dallas L. Garner.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 2, from 12 to 3:15 p.m., at the funeral home.

Richard B. Archer, Jr.

Mr. Richard B. "Archie" Archer, Jr., age 90, of Ellenwood passed away April 30, 2009. He worked for Flowers Baking Company for 42 years.

He is survived by Snowdelle, his loving wife of 72 years; children and their spouses, Richard Gary (Pam) Archer of Griffin, Ronald Berry Archer of Ellenwood, James Albert (Karen) Archer of Jackson, Steve Randell (Sherry) Archer of Carrollton, Robert Dennis (Sarah) Archer, Sr., of Ellenwood, Michael Rennie (Sheila) Archer of Stockbridge, Diane Iree (Danny) Richardson of Cumming, Linda Teresa (Patrick) Gudaitis of Forest Park; sister, Patricia Young of Marietta, 30 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 4, in the Chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home. Interment will be at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.
