Spivey Station Surgery Center, a unit of Southern Regional Medical Center, is hosting a Community Fair and Grand Opening Celebration Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The new, state-of-the-art, out-patient surgery center is located at 7813 Spivey Station Blvd., Suite 100, Jonesboro.
The event will include tours, pony rides, games, crafts, live music, free health screenings, raffles, pilates classes, and massages, according to Katie Little, spokesperson for the center.
"We've had to expand and update technology with the growing community," said Little.
Formerly known as the Surgery Center at Mt. Zion, the out-patient facility was previously located at 4000 Corporate Center Drive in Morrow, according to Little.
"Our [message] is transforming healthcare, transforming lives," said Little. "We've implemented all these new technologies that aren't found anywhere else in the Southern Crescent, to benefit our community."
Little said during the grand opening, members of the community will be allowed to tour the facility, including viewing a new state-of-the-art operating room.
The out-patient center also offers an internet cafe for waiting family members, as well as an InstyMeds prescription machine.
Similar to a vending machine, the InstyMeds machine dispenses prescription medication, according to Little. Patients who have undergone out-patient surgery and need prescriptions will be given a code that will allow them to fill prescriptions via the machine.
"You can pay with your debit or credit card right there, and it [prescription medicine] just comes out," said Little.
She said the InstyMed machine is a good alternative for patients.
"When you're sick, you're tired, you just had surgery -- you want to go home. You don't want to wait at the pharmacy," Little said.
