An Atlanta man who was visiting Clayton County relatives was struck by a car and killed early Monday morning, while he was walking on Tara Boulevard, according to Clayton County Police.
Dandre Jones, 26, was struck and killed near the intersection of North Carter Drive around 1:45 a.m., Monday, according to Clayton County Police Officer Tim Owens.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene, and no charges were filed against the driver, Owens said.
According to a police report, the driver, Lorina Phan, 19, of Jonesboro, said she was driving northbound on Tara Boulevard in the far right lane as she passed North Carter Drive.
"Driver # 1 [Phan] stated, at this point, she suddenly observed the black male pedestrian standing in her lane of travel," according to the police report. Phan told police she had no time to avoid the pedestrian, according to the report.
The victim's sister told police that Jones had left her house on Carter Court intoxicated and upset, police records state.
A man who lived in the area told police he saw Jones "cursing and staggering" on North Carter Drive, prior to the incident, the report said.
"The victim apparently walked into the right north bound lane of Tara Blvd.," the police report states.
