Jonesboro man indicted in fatal club shooting

A Clayton County grand jury has indicted a Jonesboro man in a fatal December 2008 shooting at The Spot nightclub and sports bar on Ga. Highway 85.

Derrick Ashley Blake, 31, was indicted Wednesday in the shooting death of Marion Turner, 26, of College Park, according to court records. Blake is charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The shooting occurred Dec. 23 at the nightclub, located at 8514 Ga. Highway 85, Jonesboro.

Court records show Blake had a first appearance hearing on April 5, and was denied bond on April 6.

According to an application for an arrest warrant, on the night of the incident, Blake started a verbal argument with Turner inside the club. According to the warrant application, he left the club and retrieved a 9 mm handgun from his vehicle.

"He then re-entered the bar and shot Mr. Turner twice in the back, killing him," according to application.

Blake is being held in the Clayton County Jail, and is scheduled for a hearing May 12, according to court records.
