Police investigate Forest Park shooting

Forest Park Police are investigating an early morning home invasion, in which three gunmen broke into an apartment complex, and opened fire on a family of four, wounding a woman in the home.

According to Lt. James Delk, of the Forest Park Police Department, the incident occurred around 1a.m., Friday, at the Waters Edge Apartments, located at 417 Barton Drive in Forest Park.

"From what we can gather, at this point, they [the family] were sleeping in the bedroom and heard the front door being broken down," said Delk.

"The husband came out of the bedroom. He then sought refuge in the bedroom, where his wife and children already were -- they all sleep in the same bedroom," Delk said.

"They [suspects] were firing through the bedroom door, and the female victim was struck twice," said Delk.

"The suspects did break into the bedroom door, but after that, they stopped their assault," he said. "We're not sure why they stopped their assault."

Delk said the suspects then fled the scene. He said police do not yet know the motive for the incident.

The woman was shot in the wrist and the abdomen, and was later transported to a local hospital, where she was in stable condition, according to Delk.

Anyone with information in the case, is asked to contact the Forest Park Police Department at (404) 608-2366, or (404) 366-4141.
