Clayton County Public Schools will host summer school, and the summer meal programs, at 13 schools June 8-30, district officials announced Tuesday.

Summer school will take place at Arnold, Callaway, Fountain, Marshall, River's Edge , Riverdale and West Clayton elementary schools; Adamson, Babb, Lovejoy, Roberts and Sequoyah middle schools, and Mt. Zion and North Clayton high schools.

Courses offered in summer school will prepare third-, fifth- and eighth-grade students to re-take portions of the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT), while high school students will have 16 courses to choose from, or they can use the time to prepare to re-take portions of the Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT), school officials said in a statement announcing the schedule.

Eighth-grade students also will be required to attend summer school if they need remediation in the areas of math, social studies, science and language arts, school officials said.

Summer school for elementary school students will last from 7:45 a.m., to 12:45 p.m., while middle school students will be in class from 8:45 a.m., to 1:45 p.m., and high school students enrolled in one of 16 courses will be in school from 9:30 a.m., to 3 p.m.

Students will be assigned to a summer school based on the school they attended during the regular school year. Each host school will house its own summer school students.

Summer school students from all of the county's eight high schools who are not re-taking the GHSGT will take classes at North Clayton High School, school officials said. Students preparing to re-take portions of the GHSGT will have remediation classes from June 17 to July 2 at Mt. Zion High School.

The re-test date for the CRCT reading section is June 29, and the CRCT math section will be administered on June 30. The re-testing dates for the GHSGT will be July 13-17, school officials said.

All Clayton County children between the ages of 4 and 18 will be eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch at those sites while summer school is in session, regardless of whether they are enrolled in summer school classes, according to a district statement.
