Laurel Park receives national award

Henry Medical Center's (HMC) Laurel Park has been recognized, nationally, for the services it provides seniors.

The center and its staff have been awarded the Step I National Quality Award by the American Health Care Association, and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), according to Carol Wellman, administrator for Laurel Park.

The Step I Award, Wellman said, recognizes providers who have developed a foundation to begin a journey of continuous quality improvement.

Wellman accepted the award on behalf of the entire staff at the AHCA/NCAL's 60th Annual Convention and Exposition in Chicago in last month.

"This honor acknowledges the employees of Laurel Park, and their commitment to providing quality service to the residents of Henry County," Wellman said.

Out of 664 nursing and assisted living facilities from across the nation to apply for the award, she said, Laurel Park was one of 435 centers to receive the award.

Michelle Nunnally, public relations specialist for Henry Medical Center, said although Laurel Park is a separate building from the main hospital, it is technically part of the hospital and is considered another department.

"Laurel Park is Henry Medical Center's long-term rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility," said Nunnally. "HMC patients requiring these services are referred to Laurel Park."

Patients are accepted from Henry County, as well as from other areas, she added.

HMC is located at 1133 Eagle's Landing Parkway in Stockbridge. Laurel Park is located on the hospital's campus at 1050 Hospital Drive.

Wellman said Laurel Park accepts geriatric patients after orthopedic surgery on their knees, hips or shoulders, and provides the rehabilitative services they need to allow them to return home.

"We have an excellent record of returning those people back to the community, rather than them becoming long-term residents of this facility," added Wellman.
