Christians are sinners, saved by Grace! - Jim Bell

One could take offense to being called a sinner, for it is to some, a very stinging accusation. This would be in the case where it is true, for sometimes, the truth hurts. But we should not be hurt or surprised by this, because man is sinful.

Romans 3:23 says, "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." I believe most lost people (those who do not have a relationship with God through Christ Jesus) know they are sinners. Some will admit it, some will not, and the first step to coming to Jesus is recognizing and admitting we are sinners.

There are those who try to justify how they live and believe. They think they do not have to believe in God to be a good person, and I agree. However, being good will not get one to heaven, although I must admit it seems right that a good person, morally and civilly, would be a candidate for entry into God's Heaven.

However, Proverbs 16:25 tells us, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." I have talked with many individuals on this subject in my 23 years of serious witnessing for the Lord. Some will tell you, when asked if they think they will go to Heaven when they die, "Oh, yes, my mother went to church almost every Sunday and I know I'm going to be with her one day", or, "Sure I am, because I've been a church member since I was a kid."

The Bible doesn't tell us we will be in heaven through church membership, but through belief in Jesus Christ!

There is a saying among preachers and evangelists that, "You got to get'em lost before you can get them saved!" People must realize the state of their spiritual lives, and learn how they can change from evil to a higher calling, to walk as Jesus did.

There are many verses in the Bible that plainly tell us we are sinners: 1st John 1:8 tells us, "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." Verse 10 says, "If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word has no place in our lives." Romans 6:23 says, "The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life."

A person must first realize there is a God, that the Holy Bible is His Word and the standard of truth and righteousness. Listen to St. John, the Apostle, as he says in 1st John 1:1, "That which was from the beginning, (Jesus Christ) which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, and our hands have touched."

John here is the perfect witness for Jesus Christ. He did not just hear about Him, but actually saw Him and touched Him and talked with Him!

Jesus Christ was, and is, God with us! On earth, He was 100 percent man and 100 percent God-Emanuel. Praise God!

He knows us and He knows all about us. There is nothing we can hide from Him. Then, John says to us in 1st John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He (Jesus) is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Christians are sinners saved by grace -- the love of God. We all sin. Even though we try to live without sin and don't want to sin, we still fail at times. Thank you, Jesus, for asking your Father God to send us the Holy Spirit to live with us and in us, to guide us in the way we should go, and to convict us of our sin.

When He convicts me of some wrong thought or act, I immediately ask for forgiveness. I don't wait until prayer time. No, prayer time is all the time.

God loves sinners, but hates the sin in our lives, and He is always ready to hear our prayers and forgive. We must have a like attitude toward those who have not accepted Christ as their savior.

So, if you are still undecided on whether to believe and put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, please know we do not hate you, nor even dislike you. On the contrary, we have your best interest in mind, and we want to know you and love you in Christ.

Please determine to accept Christ as your personal savior, put your faith in Him and see how great a blessing He has for you.
