A local health club wants to help area families have a Thanksgiving meal.
Curves in Stockbridge is planning its "Give A Gobble" program, and is encouraging the public to donate frozen turkeys on Nov. 19 and 20.
"Curves is all about supporting our community," said Loretta Eskew, owner of the Stockbridge Curves and the area director for Curves locations in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
"With the economy, people are short on funds. By helping them with their holiday meal, it will give them the ability to have a full, rounded Thanksgiving meal," Eskew added.
Curves in Stockbridge is located at 4518 North Henry Boulevard. The turkeys donated to Curves in Stockbridge will be distributed to either Haven House, which is a local women's shelter, or to a local food pantry, said Eskew.
In addition to the Curves in Stockbridge, other local clubs participating in this year's "Give A Gobble" campaign are those in Hampton, Riverdale, Morrow, McDonough and Jonesboro, according to Eskew.
The outreach is a way for the company to be a good neighbor in the community, Eskew said, especially during the holiday season.
Eskew hopes to collect at least 50 turkeys this year to help needy families in the area. Last year, the club participated in the initiative, she said, and collected 20 turkeys.
"Every season we work on different projects," Eskew said. "We're constantly working with different charities."
Eskew said during October, the health club supported the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" charity. "My club alone raised over $2,000," she said.
Non-members considering joining Curves in Stockbridge, and donating a turkey during the donation drive, will have the normal $149 service fee waived, she said.
