One man arrested after town-home shooting

A late-night beer run apparently led to a shooting Monday at the Pembroke Town Homes on Ga. Highway 85 near Riverdale, police said.

A resident of the complex was shot multiple times, but sustained only non-life-threatening injuries, after he and another man reportedly gave the alleged gunman money to go buy some beer, according to Clayton County Police Officer India Smith.

When Demetrius James Anderson, 24, didn't return after about 20 minutes, Smith said Chris Stephens and Eddie Simmons went looking for him.

"When they found him, there were some words exchanged," Smith said.

Simmons, 48, told police that he and Stephens located Anderson in unit 401 at the complex, and that during an argument, Anderson pulled a silver revolver and fired at Stephens.

Simmons told police that Anderson then aimed in his direction and pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't fire. Anderson then allegedly told Simmons, "get away from here, you don't have anything to do with this," police said.

When police arrived, just after 11 p.m., Monday, they found Anderson inside unit 501 at the complex. Smith said all three men were listed as living in the complex. She said Anderson was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of giving a false name.

Smith said Stephens, 36, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and was in intensive care Tuesday.
