Members of a local church are preparing to extend a hand of generosity to area residents today, by providing food for those who are less fortunate.
Volunteers from Tabernacle of Praise Church International will feed the public today, at 12 p.m., at the Henry County Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS). The department is located at 125 Henry Parkway, in McDonough.
Antoinette Milton, the outreach coordinator for the church, is spearheading the endeavor for the second year in a row. She said that although the occasion is geared toward homeless and low-income families in Henry, the DFACS office will be "open to everyone."
"We want people to come, eat together and worship together," she said.
Milton said the event is being used as a means of "outreach" for the community.
"We believe that outreach goes beyond the four walls of the church," she said. "It's the church's responsibility to be a pillar in the community. Outreach meets the people's tangible needs. Before we can meet their needs spiritually, we have to meet them physically, first."
Milton said more than 60 people were fed at last year's dinner. She hopes to exceed that number today, by providing food for more than 100 people.
