McDonough church to host holiday breakfast

Jolly, Ol' St. Nick is preparing to make his seasonal visit to McDonough First United Methodist Church for a holiday meal.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, the church will host its annual Breakfast with Santa event. The free event will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., in the church fellowship hall.

McDonough First United Methodist, located at 151 Macon St., began hosting the holiday meals in 2006, according to Amy May, one of the event's organizers. The church offers the breakfasts as a way of making contact with the community, said May.

"We do this as an outreach to welcome people to our church at Christmas time," she added.

Each year, the event attracts more people, she said. In 2007, between 80 and 100 people attended Breakfast with Santa, May said. "Last year we had 300 people. It really surprised us," she said.

During Breakfast with Santa, families bringing their own cameras can snap a picture of their children with Santa Claus, or purchase one from a professional photographer.

The breakfasts at the church also give parents another choice when scheduling time for their children to see Santa, May said. "I really hope that's an alternative to taking kids to the mall," she said.
