Clayton Schools to host mentor meeting

Clayton County Public Schools will host its second "500 Men Standing in the GAP" meeting on Saturday, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at Jonesboro High School, which is located at 7728 Mt. Zion Boulevard, in Jonesboro.

The school system's "500 Men" initiative is an effort to increase the number of male role models volunteering in the district's 60 schools. Before the first meeting for the initiative on Oct. 23, school system Community Relations Liaison Rhonda Burnough said district officials, including Clayton County Public Schools Superintendent Edmond Heatley, want to eventually establish male mentoring programs at every school.

The session on Saturday will focus on volunteer training for men interested in participating in the program, Burnough said in a written statement. It is open to all men in Clayton County, regardless of whether they attended the meeting in October, Burnough said.
